A rough, exposed extension from Lower Tama to a high viewpoint over Upper Tama Lake.
Route overview
Complete the Lower Tama route, climb the unformed ridge to the Upper Tama viewpoint and return the same way.
Beyond the end of the formed Tama Lakes Track, an unformed route climbs steeply for 1.4 km each way along a natural ridgeline. Loose uneven rock, instability, strong wind and low-cloud navigation make this significantly harder than the main track. The lake shore is not an approved destination.
