Taranaki Falls Walk
A varied loop through tussock, beech forest and volcanic gullies to a 20 m waterfall.
Route overview
Use the lower forest track to reach Taranaki Falls, climb the steps and return through open volcanic terrain.
The sheltered lower track crosses alpine shrubland and enters mountain beech forest beside Wairere Stream. It passes Cascade Falls and reaches Taranaki Falls, which drops over a 15,000-year-old Ruapehu lava flow. The upper return crosses open tussock and eroded volcanic terrain with broad mountain views.
