The Slovak Paradise Traverse is a trail of approximately 80 kilometres through the Slovak Paradise National Park in the Spiš region of eastern Slovakia. The park is famous for its dramatic river gorges cut into limestone, where narrow ravines are traversed using ladders, chains, and footbridges. The landscape is a mix of dense forest, waterfalls, and exposed rock faces. The trail passes through the Prielom Hornádu gorge, the Suchá Belá gorge with its ladder sections, the Veľký Sokol canyon, and the Tomášovský víh lookout with views across the Spiš basin. The terrain is varied and engaging, with some technical sections that require a head for heights and sure footing. The Slovak Paradise is well waymarked and supported by mountain huts. It is a popular destination for Czech and Slovak walkers and is gaining recognition among international hikers. Safety context
Ladder and chain sections require care and are not suitable in wet or icy conditions. Gorges can be dangerous in flood conditions. Some sections are exposed above steep drops.
The ladder sections require good balance and a head for heights. The park limits gorge access after heavy rain. Accommodation is limited to mountain huts which should be booked in advance.
