A diverse loop through beech forest, wetlands and alpine vegetation to mineral-coated stream terraces.
Route overview
Follow the forest and wetland track to Silica Rapids, climb onto open tussock and complete the road return.
The route follows Whakapapanui Stream through forest, crosses boardwalked wetlands and passes Punaruku Falls before reaching the creamy-white Silica Rapids. It then climbs across tussock-covered lava terrain and returns toward Whakapapa along Bruce Road.
