Red Tarns Track
A compact but steep village hike to tarns and broad Southern Alps views.
Route overview
Cross Black Birch Stream and climb steep steps to tarns above the village.
Red Tarns Track climbs directly from the village through changing vegetation to small tarns coloured by red pond weed. The elevated bench and viewpoint make it a popular sunset option in summer, but the descent is still steep after dark.
