Precipice Loop
Acadia's most serious maintained iron-rung route, climbing the east face of Champlain Mountain.
Route overview
Climb the Precipice route only when officially open, reach Champlain Mountain and descend by the current recommended non-rung route.
Precipice Trail ascends steep cliffs using iron rungs, ladders, narrow ledges and exposed traverses. It is commonly closed during peregrine-falcon nesting and becomes extremely dangerous when wet, icy or crowded. The route should be climbed upward and completed with an approved descent trail rather than reversed.
