PR 3.1 verbindt het ontvangstcentrum van het Funchal Ecological Park met Monte. De wandeling kruist de achttiende-eeuwse Levada das Cales, passeert de plantenkwekerij van Ribeira das Cales en bereikt het uitzichtgebied van Pico Alto rond 1129 meter. Daarna volgt de route delen van de historische Caminho Real nr. 24 door gevarieerd inheems en aangeplant bos richting Monte.

Hoewel de route technisch als gemiddeld geldt, daalt zij ongeveer 580 meter. Bosgrond, keien en oude bestrating kunnen bij regen glad zijn. Houd rekening met mist, temperatuurdaling op hoogte, verkeer nabij bebouwde zones en vermoeidheid in de lange afdaling. Controleer brand- en weerswaarschuwingen voor het Ecological Park.
