PR 2 verbindt de zuid- en noordzijde van Madeira over een oud pad. Vanuit Fajã dos Cardos klimt de route naar Boca das Torrinhas, waar het berglandschap rond Curral das Freiras opent. Daarna volgt een lange afdaling door hoogtezones en inheemse Laurissilva naar Lombo do Urzal.
