Route overview

The Główny Szlak Beskidzki (Main Beskid Trail) is the oldest and longest continuously marked mountain trail in Poland, established in the interwar period and maintained by the PTTK. It runs approximately 500 kilometres from Ustroń near the Moravian Gate in the west to Wołosate in the remote Bieszczady mountains in the south-east, close to the Ukrainian border. The route crosses the full chain of Polish Beskid ranges, including the Beskid Śląski, Beskid Żywiecki and Bieszczady, passing through forested ridgelines, remote highland meadows (połoniny) in the Bieszczady, and traditional Carpathian foothill villages. Given its length, most hikers complete the trail over several weeks in stages, with the Bieszczady's high meadows widely regarded as the most scenic and remote section.

Safety context

The Bieszczady sections are remote with limited services; weather and route-finding should be carefully planned. Standard PTTK trail guidance applies elsewhere.

The Bieszczady section in particular is remote, with fewer resupply points than the western Beskid ranges; planning food and water carries is important.
