Höga Kustenleden (High Coast Trail)

Route overview

The Höga Kustenleden runs along Sweden's High Coast (Höga Kusten), a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognised for having the highest rate of post-glacial land uplift in the world, producing a landscape of steep coastal hills, deep forests and a fjord-like shoreline unusual for the Baltic. The trail passes through varied terrain including old-growth forest, coastal cliffs and the crossing of the iconic Höga Kusten Bridge area, with wilderness shelters and lean-tos (Sweden's traditional windbreak shelters) available for overnight stops in the spirit of allemansrätten, the Swedish right of public access. Waymarking and shelter locations are maintained by the regional tourism association, and the trail is well suited to hikers seeking a coastal alternative to Sweden's better-known mountain routes such as Kungsleden.
