A remote cross-dunefield journey to the tallest dune in North America.
Route overview
Travel north to northwest across the dunefield, identify the false summit, continue about 0.25 mi / 0.4 km farther north to the true summit and retrace the route.
Hidden Dune lies beyond the obvious front ridges and remains out of sight for much of the approach. A false summit obscures the true high point, and repeated descents and re-climbs create substantially more work than the straight-line distance suggests.
