Bark Bay to Awaroa
A 13.5 km coastal stage linking Bark Bay, Onetahuti and Awaroa.
Route overview
Cross or bypass Bark Bay Estuary, climb through mānuka and continue via Onetahuti and Tonga Saddle to Awaroa.
This stage combines an optional tidal shortcut at Bark Bay with a steep forest climb and long coastal transitions. Unlike the later Awaroa crossing, Bark Bay has an all-tide bypass, so groups should choose the safer option rather than forcing a timetable.
